From the Pastor
3 “Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob,
all the remnant of the people of Israel,
you whom I have upheld since your birth,
and have carried since you were born.
4 Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you”.
This is worth mediating on.
This promise stand for us, all of us who are in Christ, we are the people of God and he will sustain us and rescue us.
The temptation in times of hardship is to turn to more tangible things to save us. Things we can see and touch. In this passage of Isaiah the temptation was to turn to the idols of Babylon to rescue them from their troubles. However God points out how impotent idols are. He mocks how once they are fashioned by the Goldsmith, then carried into position and set down, they can’t even move, they cannot save you from your troubles.
It’s a reminder to me not to look to the current trendy thing the world has to offer when times are tough. They usually promise much but deliver very little. They may distract us from our problems but rarely do they solve them. It’s a reminder to press into God and wait on him for a solution because he is able to rescue me.
